30 Tips For The Typical Musician.

Image
For those of us who embrace shades of mediocrity, here are some tips for becoming a typical musician:

Practice

Practice one hour a day. However, feel free to skip practice if there is something more interesting going on.
Play the same piece over and over again. Never try to deconstruct the music and figure out how and why it works.
Convince yourself that taking music lessons is out of the question, since all your favourite musicians were self taught.
Use only tabs and chord charts to learn new songs. Never try to figure it out by ear, it’s simply too frustrating.

Gigs

Never challenge yourself live for fear of making a mistake. Instead of taking a chance, play it safe and exactly the same every time.Book four shows a month at the same club and in the same city. Don’t bother trying to promote them.Take no time to set up an unappealing merch booth. Make sure to set it up in the dimmest corner of the club, away from any actual foot traffic. Instead of having someone constantly man the booth, jus…

What Music Do Pets Prefer?

Image
Animals like species-specific music that is designed using the pitches, tones and tempos that are familiar to them. To animals, human music falls into a grating, unrecognizable category.Leaving on classical music or soothing music for your pets might not be best for them. Many pet owners leave their home radios playing all day for the listening pleasure of their dogs and cats. Station choices vary. "We have a very human tendency to project onto our pets and assume that they will like what we like," said Charles Snowdon, an authority on the musical preferences of animals. "People assume that if they like Mozart, their dog will like Mozart. If they like rock music, they say their dog prefers rock." Against the conventional wisdom that music is auniquely human phenomenon, ongoing research shows that animals actually do have the capacity for music. But rather than liking classical or rock, Snowdon, an animal psychologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has discove…

Tips on Writing Good R&B Songs

Image
If you are interested in R&B, you had come to the right place. R&B is a great style of music and there are a lot of great R&B artists contribute to this style. You can be one of them.

STEPS

1 Decide on a tempo. Do you want a nice club type song, a more pop like melody, or a nice sexy slow jam.

2 Decide on the type. Are you more interested in a club banger, a nice pop type song, maybe a soul or gospel crossover, or some hip-hop influences to it. You can also try crossing country or jazz

3 Create a catchy melody or chord progression. This usually gets the ball rolling. You can add a little glimpse of the chorus in the intro, especially you are making a pop influenced song. It will be nice if you use a synth pad for the chord progression, unless it is a club hit, then you use a rythmic synth lead sound. In rythmic tracks, synth pad could be used in chorus and bridge. 4 Add a bass and drum line. Try to keep the bass and drum with the tempo, mood, and style. You can add more intrica…

[New Inspirational Theme Song "Instrumental"] - Keep Moving Forward

Image
Sometimes I compose My songs based on, obviously, how inspirational they are to me. I use the term inspirational to describe songs that make me feel glad, make me want to do something good, or help me carry on through the troubles of life.
This is the theme song to life itself
this song really is inspiring... as what the title goes "Keep Moving Forward", if only we don't stop believing... then for sure, we will not go wrong...
It tells the facts of life that people will fail, and people will succeed. But in the midst of failure or accomplishment, it emphasizes perseverance.
That's why I composed this Instrumental.

Why Does Music Make Us Feel?

Image
A new study demonstrates the power of music to alter our emotional perceptions of other people The lion share of emotionally evocative stimuli in the lives of our ancestors would have been from the faces and bodies of other people, and if one finds human artifacts that are highly evocative, it is a good hunch that it looks or sounds human in some way. As evidence that humans are the principal source of emotionality among human artifacts, consider human visual signs. Visual signs, I have argued, have culturally evolved to look like natural objects, and have the kinds of contour combinations found in a three-dimensional world of opaque objects. Three-dimensional world of opaque objects? Nothing particularly human about that, and that’s why most linguistic signs – like the letters and words on this page – are not emotionally evocative to look at. But visual signs do sometimes have emotional associations. For example, colors are notoriously emotionally evocative, and arguments about what…

How To Make The Right Contacts In The Music Industry

Image
You know that making the right music industry contacts is a key factor in developing a successful music career. The problem is, most musicians really don't know 'who' the most valuable music industry contacts are, where to find them, how to actually transform a 'first contact' into a meaningful relationship, what it really means to have the 'right music industry connections', etc.  If I gave you my complete list of music industry contacts (key industry people I have established important relationships with), do you think it would help you develop a successful music career? … NO! Why? Because a mere 'contact' is not worth anything. Music industry contacts need to become meaningful music industry connections. Meaningful connections are developed by building good relationships… More on this later… However, even if you have good relationships with the right people, this won’t help you until and unless you work on having the right things in place which …

Top 10 Mistakes Musicians Make When Trying To Get Into The Music Business

Image
If you want to become successful in the music industry, there are many things you need to know and do. But even if you get all that right, you can prevent yourself from reaching big success by making critical mistakes along the way (and there are many potential mistakes one could make, when not being careful). After coaching and mentoring many musicians and bands seeking a career in music, the same patterns of false assumptions, problems and mistakes appear over and over again. Here are the top 10. Mistake #10 - Not having a compelling image that is congruent with your music. Most musicians (and bands) severely underestimate the importance of their image. Yes, music is about 'music', but music business success is about a total package that includes music, image and visual stage show among other things that need to be fully developed in a congruent way.

Mistake #9 - Trying to ‘get your name out there’. Although this seems to be a main goal of most musicians and bands, it is the w…

4 Have a sequence ready. Having a general order in which to do things can get your brain working.

Hearing Loss and Headphones - Is Anyone Listening?

Image
As a parent, do you often find yourself asking your teenagers to remove their headphones so you can speak to them? You may want to consider doing it even more often. Today, one in five teens has some form of hearing loss - a rate about 30% higher than it was in the 1980s and 1990s - which many experts believe is due, in part, to the increased use of headphones. James E. Foy, DO, an osteopathic pediatrician from Vallejo, Calif., explains what you can do to minimize your child’s risk of hearing loss. "Listening through headphones at a high volume for extended periods of time can result in lifelong hearing loss for children and teens," says Dr. Foy. "Even a mild hearing loss due to excessive noise could lead to developmental delays in speech and language." So, how loud is too loud?"Most MP3 players today can produce sounds up to 120 decibels, equivalent to a sound level at a rock concert. At that level, hearing loss can occur after only about an hour and 15 minute…

Music can boost your immune system

Image
Listening to music can give your immune system a boost and may help fight off disease, researchers have discovered.                                                Elvis Presley impersonators at a street party in Baker Street, central London Scientists found that after listening to just 50 minutes of uplifting dance music, the levels of antibodies in volunteers' bodies increased. They also found that stress hormone levels, which can weaken the immune system, decreased after being exposed to the music. Volunteers who played a percussion instrument along with the music also benefited from the immune boost. The researchers, from Sussex University and the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig, Germany, say their findings demonstrate how music could be used to help aid patients' recovery while in hospital. In a separate, unpublished, study they also found that playing music while a patient was under anaesthetic during an operation also helped to lower the levels of harmful stress hormones. Dr R…
